Where to Use Runner Rugs

Runner rugs are long and narrow floor pieces that can make a big impact in a small space. They’re often used in hallways and staircases but can also be a great addition to bedrooms, bathrooms and other rooms. The beauty of these versatile accent pieces is that they are available in a wide array of colors, patterns and designs that fit perfectly into any room’s overall aesthetic. This makes them a popular choice for anyone looking to add warmth, color and depth to their home decor without going over budget.

Staircases are the most obvious and common place for a runner rug. Not only does it give the area a cozy, welcoming feel but it also prevents people from slipping and falling on the hard surfaces underneath. They’re also an excellent option if you have young kids who tend to play or climb on the carpeted stairs, as they’ll provide them with a soft landing spot rather than hard floors that might cause injuries.

Hallways are another common use for a runner rug and they’re the ideal way to tie together different areas of a large space. Adding one at the entrance to your home can help keep dirt and dust off of the main furniture pieces and creates an inviting first impression for guests. You can even choose a brightly colored rug to add a pop of color to your home’s entryway and create an eye-catching feature that will catch the attention of visitors.

The kitchen is a great place to put a runner rug too, especially in galley kitchens or ones that have an island in the center. It will create a focal point that helps tie the entire kitchen together while creating a comfortable space for standing at key spots like the sink or stove. They’re also perfect for preventing snags and tangles from shoes that are usually left on the floor or food spills and stains that are easy to miss with larger area rugs.

A runner rug can also work well in a bathroom, particularly if you’re using it to cover up a non-slip surface like linoleum or hardwood. A softer, more comfortable surface to stand on will be much appreciated by family members and houseguests alike. Runner rugs are also an easy way to add a splash of color in a bathroom that might otherwise be neutral or bland.

While runner rugs are great on their own, they’re even more impressive when combined with other decor elements. Layering, framing and draping runners over furniture can all be creative ways to define a room in a way that’s unique and memorable. Whether you’re trying to achieve a bohemian vibe or something more traditional, a runner rug can serve as the perfect accent piece for any space in your home.
